How long will it take?

The GDC has a statutory maximum of 12 weeks from receipt of a completed application to register a dentist. Please ensure you have completed the form correctly and that you have included all requested documents, as incomplete forms will take longer to process.

You will be sent an automated email acknowledging the receipt of your application within 10-15 days of receiving your application.

Please refer to our "Evidence of English language competence: guidance for applicants” document, for types of evidence we are likely to accept as demonstrating that a dental professional has the necessary knowledge of English.

If this further evidence still does not satisfy us, we will direct you to undertake a test before we register you. The test that we will direct you to undertake is the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. You must achieve the pass scores relevant to your profession.
